According to the Central Hydro Meteorology Forecasting Centre, the El Nino phenomenon will continue to affect Asia, including Vietnam, through the end of May, resulting in widespread drought in the next two months.

The Centre is also forecasting that the average temperature in March will be 1-2 degree Celsius higher year-on-year.

Deputy Director of the Centre, Le Thanh Hai said that droughts will continue to be seen in February and March. Despite the prediction that rainfall will be double February’s level, the water levels of rivers will be 20 –25 percent lower than normal for this time of year.

From now through late April, around eight slightly cold spells with accompanying rain, lasting three or four days each, will hit the northern region. Otherwise, the period will see warm to hot weather with temperatures ranging from 25-33 degrees Celsius.
