The Chairman of the United Nations Development Group and Head of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), Kemal Dervis, will begin his first official visit to Vietnam on December 7, according to a press release issued by the United Nations Country Team in Vietnam.

This visit comes at a critical moment when Vietnam is recognised as a real leader in terms of UN reform following the Vietnamese Government’s efforts in ensuring a more effective and nationally-owned system of aid through the Hanoi Core Statement on Aid Effectiveness, said UN Resident Coordinator John Hendra.

Mr Hendra added that his organisation is moving towards ‘One UN’, and Dervis is going to learn from Vietnam and see for himself how the UN and the Vietnamese Government are working together to ensure maximum impact of UN support on some of the country’s key development challenges ahead.

During the visit, Dervis will meet with President Nguyen Minh Triet, Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc, and representatives of the Tripartite National Task Force on UN Reform.
