A cold spell is moving toward northern provinces while a tropical storm is heading for the East Sea, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.

The cold spell is forecast to affect northern provinces on the morning of October 14, according to the centre. It will cause heavy rains in northern and north-central provinces and rough seas in the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf.

Meanwhile, tropical storm Banyan is entering the East Sea at a speed of 10-15km/h. At 01.00am on October 13, the storm was positioned at 12.4 degrees north latitude and 121 degrees east longitude, packing winds of 62-74km/h near its centre.

In the next 24-48 hours, Banyan is forecast to move between northeast and north-northeast at a speed of 10-15km. It will cause rough seas in the northern and eastern parts of the East Sea.
