Int’l maritime congress raises concern over East Sea issue

The fifth annual International Maritime Congress recently held in Poland raised concern over the complicated developments in the East Sea issue, saying that they are directly linked with China’s maritime strategy.

Presided over by the Centre for Poland-Asia Studies and partners, the event attracted more than 1,000 delegates, including representatives from authorities, scholars and businesses specialising in navigation from Europe and other parts of the world.

They discussed four topics of transport, seaports and shipbuilding plants; maritime education and renovation; maritime law, finance and safety; seafood and ecology.
During the “Transport, seaports and shipbuilding plants” session, participants said militarisation in the East Sea is worrying, directly hurting regional and global maritime security.

Several opinions analysed dangers in the East Sea, especially China’s militarisation of islands and shoals which has destroyed a mass of natural coral reefs as well as its construction of artificial islands.
