Thai National Day celebration in HCM City

(VOV) - Vietnam and Thailand have regularly exchanged visits to promote cooperation in all fields, especially in economics, national security and defence, culture, tourism, education and training in recent years.

Truong Hoa, President of the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association in HCM City made the statement at a meeting on December 9 to mark the 86th birthday of Thailand’s King and National Day (December 5).

Hoang said bilateral trade turnover hit US$5.4 billion in three quarters of this year, up 14.2% compared to the same period last year. Thailand currently ranks ninth among foreign investors in Vietnam with 315 projects with a total capitalisation of US$6.38 billion. HCM City alone has more than 100 Thailand-invested projects worth more than US$127 million.

Vietnam has invested more than US$12 million in nine projects in Thailand.

Thai Consul General Panpimon Suwannaponge said 2013 is an important year as the two countries have officially lifted their relations to the level of strategic partnership and ready for closer cooperation in the coming period.

She presented more than VND100 million and 800 bath to the Vietnam-Thailand Charity Fund.

On the occasion, the Thai Business Association in HCM City granted 20 scholarships to disadvantaged students.
