IAEA pledges to support Vietnam in nuclear power

(VOV) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Director Yukiya Amano has  recently reiterated his organization’s commitment to priotize supporting Vietnam in fine-tuning the legal framework and capacity building for officials in the nuclear power area.

At a recent meeting with Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the IAEA and Ambassador Vu Viet Anh, who came to present his credentials, Amano highly appreciated the effective collaboration and contributions of Vietnam to the IAEA's activities over the years.

The IAEA Director General thanked Vietnam for having fulfilled its tasks as the Chair of the IAEA Board of Governors for the term of 2013 while hailing the nation’s efforts to promote the activities of the agency. He also recalled his good impression on the Vietnam trip in early this year, as well as the country’s nuclear program.

For his part, Ambassador Vu Viet Anh emphasized Vietnam’s orientations for the use of nuclear energy with the highest safety standards.

The two sides also examined ways to increase bilateral cooperation by running intensive training courses for Vietnamese legal staff.

In addition to bilateral issues, they also exchanged views on the latest developments related to the nuclear status of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Iran and the Middle East situation.
