HCM City will select some urgent issues relating to house ownership, citizenship, residence status and visas to be resolved in a pilot project in a bid to pay the way for overseas Vietnamese to contribute more to municipal development.

At a meeting on July 7 with more than 100 overseas Vietnamese, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Dua said that in the third quarter of this year, the city plans to submit a project to the Government paying the way for overseas Vietnamese to contribute more to municipal development.

The HCM City People’s Committee asked the municipal Overseas Vietnamese Committee to select some urgent issues relating to overseas Vietnamese residing in the city to incorporate into a 2-3 year pilot project on the implementation of Resolution 36.

Chairman of the municipal Overseas Vietnamese Committee Nguyen Chon Trung cited certain issues such as the right to house ownership, citizenship, residence status, visas, procedures for employment, level of income and working conditions for overseas intellectuals.

Speaking at the meeting, vice chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Commission Ton Nu Thi Ninh said HCM City should focus on creating a favourable administration framework based on real conditions rather than preferential rights. She also voiced support for the pilot project in principle.
