Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem received Ri Myong San, deputy minister of foreign trade of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Hanoi on April 1.

Ri Myong San has been in Hanoi for the 7th session of the Vietnam-DPRK inter-government committee for economic, scientific and technological cooperation.

The Korean guest expressed his admiration for socio-economic development achievements that Vietnam has recorded in recent times. He noted that economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the DPRK has yet to match their potential and politic relations. He expressed his hope that the DPRK would receive assistance from Vietnam, especially in the area of food security.

He briefed Mr Khiem on the DPRK’s preparations for celebrations to mark 60 years of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

For his part, Mr Khiem shared the view that both countries have many things in common and they should fully tap potential available.

Vietnam is willing to cooperate and assist the DPRK in such areas as mining and agricultural production, said Mr Khiem.

He went on to say that Vietnam is ready to welcome DPRK delegations during the 60th anniversary celebrations.
