"Security is our top priority," said Mr Phung, adding that the Organising Board has drawn detailed security plans for all participants, meeting venues, airports and hotels, as well as plans to ensure food hygiene, healthcare and road safety during the Leaders' Week.
Focus will be put on 17 key events during the week from November 12-19, including the 14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM 14 - November 18-19), the 18th Joint Ministerial Meeting (November 15-16), the Concluding Senior Official’s Meeting (CSOM – November 12-13), the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC – November 14-16) and the CEO Summit (November 17-19).
In addition to these meetings, there will be many other significant events such as the "Doing Business with Vietnam" Forum with the participation of more than 700 leading businesses in the Asia-Pacific region, and a series of workshops, exhibitions, dialogues and contacts for businesses, entrepreneurs and government’s officials on the sidelines of the meetings.
On the occasion of the AELM 14, leaders of five APEC economies will pay official friendship visits to Vietnam, which include tours by Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China (November 15-17); Michelle Bachelet Jeria, President of the Republic of Chile (November 17); George W. Bush, President of the United States of America (November 17-20); Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan (November 19-20); and Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation (November 20).
Trade promotion on high agenda of APEC meeting
"Trade and investment promotion in a changing world" and "Fundamentals ensuring dynamism, growth and sustainable development in APEC" will be two of the main topics for discussion at the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM 14), said Mr Phung.
To promote trade and investment among 21 APEC member economies, their leaders will focus their discussions on issues related to the Doha negotiation round, Regional Trade Agreements and Free Trade Agreements (RTAs/FTAs), the Hanoi Action Plan to implement the Busan Roadmap, and measures to speed up the realisation of Bogor Goals.
To ensure dynamism, growth and sustainable development in APEC, the APEC leaders will discuss issues on human security, economic-technological cooperation (ECOTECH) and other matters, including APEC reform.
Five important documents are expected to be adopted during the APEC Week, including the 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Declaration, the 18th APEC Ministerial Meeting Statement, the Hanoi Action Plan to implement the Busan Roadmap, the Report on APEC Reform, and a senior officials' Report to be submitted to Ministers.
