Vietnam welcomes the Japanese Government’s decision to resume official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam and its commitment to providing the country with US$900 million in ODA in the 2009 fiscal year, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Dung said on February 24.
He said that Japanese ODA has helped Vietnam implement important socio-economic projects and has facilitated Japanese enterprises’ operation in the country, so as to boost bilateral ties towards a strategic partnership envisioned by the two countries’ leaders.
This decision is the result of the close cooperation between the two governments in preventing ODA-related corruption and strengthening the effective use of Japanese ODA in Vietnam, the spokesperson said.
