A welcome ceremony for State President Nguyen Minh Triet and his wife was held on the morning of November 26 at the Royal Palace in Tokyo in the presence of Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and other members from the Royal family.

Immediately after the ceremony, Mr Triet and his wife were received by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Royal Palace. The Japanese Emperor expressed his delight at Mr Triet’s visit, which he described as an important landmark in the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.


Mr Akihito praised Vietnam’s significant socio-economic developments over the past few years and expressed his belief that with a long-standing cultural tradition, hard-working and creative spirit, the Vietnamese people will continue to move on in the near future.


On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, State President Triet thanked the Emperor and the Japanese Royal Family for their warm sentiments towards Vietnamese people, hoping that his visit will be successful to bring the friendship and cooperation between the two countries to a new height.


In regard to the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership, Mr Triet said the Vietnamese Government will give priority to promoting the development of cooperative relations to meet the interests and aspirations of both countries’ people, for the sake of peace, stability and development in the region and in the world.


On this occasion, Mr Triet invited the Emperor, Empress and other members from the Royal Family to visit Vietnam and his invitation was accepted with pleasure.

Also in the morning, Mr Triet met with Mitarai, President of the Japan Business Federation Keidanren and later in the afternoon, Mr Triet delivered a speech at the Japan-Vietnam-Business Forum.
