Ho Chi Minh – a great character

President Ho Chi Minh has been praised as a great hero of national liberation and an outstanding cultural activist who has bequeathed the world a valuable asset – Ho Chi Minh’s Thought.

Professor Song Thanh, former director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute, Party leaders and the Ho Chi Minh National Politics and Administration Academy share the view that the prominent aspects of Ho Chi Minh are the morals and ideals of a talented politician. He had strong ideals, an unyielding will, a brilliant mind, and paid special attraction to the people. He also had a close link with the people and knew how to use other talented people. All these characteristics helped Ho Chi Minh make the right decisions to cope with complicated changes to many different situations and successfully carry out Vietnam’s revolutionary cause despite numerous difficulties.

Professor Song Thanh says that Ho Chi Minh had both intelligence and bravery. At this period in history, a strong and determined leader was needed, Ho Chi Minh made all the right decisions and believed that history would illustrate his ability to make the right decisions at the right time.

President Ho once said that in an urgent situation, the Party needs to make quick decisions to save the day. It is generally agreed that few leaders are so brilliant, calm, brave, self-sacrificing and determined to overcome such enormous historical challenges.

Ho Chi Minh was a true leader of the people, and a good example of the ideal relationship between leader and followers. He loved and respected the people and considered them the masters and origin of the nation. Although the country had suffered many hard times, he still believed in the invincible strength of the people.

He always educated cadres on their responsibility for taking care of the people’s material and spiritual lives. If the nation gains independence and they are not happy,” he said, “then the independence is meaningless”.

An Cong Hoan, head of the faculty of Vietnamese and Trade at Cho Sun University in the Republic of Korea, says that Ho Chi Minh’s virtue and personality are still a good example for other leaders to follow. “Ho Chi Minh’s Thought can be briefly described as the spirit of the people. When a leader acts in line with the collective spirit and works together with the people, he can mobilise the integrated strength of the whole nation,” he added.

In his lifetime, President Ho had travelled far and wide to meet people and listen to their opinions. Although he had a great prestige and attraction, Ho Chi Minh always regarded himself as a loyal and dedicated servant of the people.

Ho Chi Minh was the very embodiment of Vietnam’s humanism. He is compassionate, tolerant and patriotic. He was true internationalist who had devoted his whole life to achieving national independence. Wherever he travelled, he always showed his passionate love for the people. He had spent his whole life struggling for peace and national liberation, and constantly pursuing a peaceful and friendly diplomatic policy. Ho Chi Minh’s ideology and behaviour always originated from a universal truth and undeniable facts, to resolve problems in a reasonable and sensible manner.

Former Indian Prime Minister J. Nerhu once said: “This world is experiencing a period of crisis – a psychological crisis. There is an urgent need to have peaceful and friendly approach. President Ho Chi Minh is a symbol of that kind of approach.”
