Participants in the event included former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, and veteran revolutionaries, who previously lit incense in memory of the martyrs of the communist-led revolt at the Giong Crossroads.

The insurgency was brutally put down by the then French colonialists. Many communist leaders and fighters were later executed. However, the uprising instilled patriotism and heroism in the citizens of Saigon and southern Vietnam.

After the liberation of South Vietnam in 1975, the Hoc Mon people united around the local Party committee to reconstruct the district in all fields.

In recent years, the people of the district have made much progress in improving their living standards and changing the face of their rural areas.

On the occasion, the Hoc Mon district Party branch awarded insignias to 17 Party members who have engaged in the Vietnamese Communist Party’s cause for 30, 40 or 50 years.
