A solemn ceremony was held on June 9 to place a bust of late Vietnamese president Ho Chi Minh in the Russian City of Ulyanovsk, where V. I. Lenin was born.

Present at the event were authorities of Ulyanovsk City and Province, and representatives of the Vietnamese embassy in Russia as well as local residents and the Vietnamese community living there.

The bust was placed at Ho Chi Minh Boulevard at the heart of Ulyanovsk City. It had been presented by the Vietnamese province of Nghe An to the Governor of Ulyanovsk Province during his visit to Nghe An early this year.

Addressing the ceremony, local authorities praised great services by
President Ho Chi Minh – a great leader of the Vietnamese people and a world cultural celebrity, who had laid the foundations for close relations between Vietnam and Russia.

Vietnamese chargé d’affaires Nguyen Ngoc Binh expressed his appreciation for Ulyanovsk authorities and the Russian people’s deep respect for President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese people. He highly valued the significance of placing the Ho Chi Minh bust in the birthplace of V. I. Lenin and regarded this as a vivid symbol of the two nations’ friendship.

On the occasion, the delegation of the Vietnamese embassy held meetings and working sessions with authorities of Ulyanovsk Province and City. The two sides affirmed their determination to promote their trade and economic cooperation.

Ulyanovsk authorities committed themselves to creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in economic development projects in the city. Mr Binh thanked and asked the local authorities to continue their assistance for the Vietnamese community living there.

The two sides also agreed to step up activities for promoting economic potential between the two countries.
