The Ministry of Education and Training held a ceremony on November 2 to honour and award Vietnamese students who attended International Olympic competitions in 2006.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Van Nhung, 31 Vietnamese students attended one Olympic competition in Asia and five International Olympic competitions and won 27 medals, including four golds, six silvers, 16 bronzes and one consolation prize.

All Vietnamese students attending the international and regional Olympic competitions are top selected students from domestic competitions.

Since 1974, 523 Vietnamese students have been sent to international Olympic competitions and 442 of them have won medals, including 99 golds, 147 silvers and 170 bronzes, as well as 26 certificates of merit. Vietnam will host the international Olympic Maths competition in 2007 and the international Olympic Physics competition in 2008.
