According to a forecast by the National Meteorological Forecasting Centre, the storm is expected to move in a north-westerly direction at the speed of 15kph, with the strongest wind speeds near the centre likely to increase its force up to twelve or thirteen on the Beaufort scale.
Experts said that this was a strong storm affecting a large area. Provinces in the affected area have thus been called to tighten control of the offshore activities of fishing ships and keep regular contacts with ships’ owners.
According to border guards, as of June 20, more than 8,100 ships and boats with 55,000 fishermen which were still offshore had received updates on the storm.
About 297 fishing ships with more than 5,700 fishermen which were still operating in the central and northern parts of the East Sea that could be most affected by the storm.
Provincial authorities have been asked to arrange rescue teams and necessary equipment, and closely monitor the storm’s activities./.
