Switzerland values fostering ties with Vietnam

(VOV) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh on September 16 held talks with Swiss Vice President, Johann Niklaus Schneider-Ammann, in Bern on measures to enhance multi-faceted collaborations as part of his working trip to Europe.

Ninh expressed his delight at the growing friendship and cooperation between the two countries, affirming that Vietnam is taking heed to cooperation with ASEAN, major countries and traditional friends, including Switzerland.

He hoped the Switzerland will speed-up trade exchanges, the implementation of ODA projects in the post-2016 period and foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam.

Mr Ammann told Ninh his nation places high importance to strengthening a relationship with Vietnam within different fields, while also marking the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

The valid EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement will provide leverage for stimulating economic ties thus luring more Swiss investments into Vietnam, he said.

The two sides agreed to exchange visits and encourage local businesses to set-up cooperative ties in potential fields like finance, banking, insurance, hi-tech, processing industry, pharmacy, agriculture and tourism.

On the same day, Mr Ninh and his entourage visited the Vietnam Embassy in Bern.

He left Switzerland on September 17 for Belgium to work with EU officials to seek measures that boost multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and European countries.
