Hanoi authorities have approved a healthcare development program worth VND43.36 trillion ($2.2 billion) for the period from now until 2030.

Under this program, the city aims to have 12.5 doctors and two pharmacists per 10,000 residents by 2015. The figures are expected to rise to 13.5 and 2.5 per 10,000 people, respectively, by 2020, and 14 and 3 by 2030.

The city will also raise the ratio of patient beds per 10,000 residents to 20 by 2015, 25 by 2020 and 30 by 2030. In addition, 100 percent of communes and wards will reach the national healthcare standards for communes and wards by 2015.

The capital will build 10 new hospitals with a total of 3,850 beds from 2012 to 2015.

At the same time, Hanoi will set up nine first aid centres for new residential areas like My Dinh, Bac Thang Long, Hoa Lac, Thuong Tin or Phu Xuyen, Son Tay, Van Dinh and Xuan Mai.

At newly-established residential areas, there will be a national standardized clinic for each 8,000 people.
