The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) highlighted the vanguard role played by the press on the ideological front.

Presiding over a conference on press management on November 6, To Huy Rua, Secretary of the CPVCC and Chairman of the CPVCC's Commission for Ideology and Culture, spoke highly of the development of the press contingent and the increase in quality and quantity of press publications.

He said the press has become the people's forum, while actively joining in activities of the press circle in the region and the world, and taking the initiative in integrating into the international media community.

The Party official also pointed to the shortcomings and weaknesses in the local media industry such as dishonest and incorrect reports, and the trend of privatisation at several media organisations. He also mentioned a lack of development plans for television and radio stations leading to wastefulness and inefficiency.

He attributed the weaknesses to the inefficient implementation of Party resolutions and personnel training by press agencies.
