Children in the capital city of Hanoi are stronger and taller than their friends from other localities, according to the Hanoi Committee for Population, Family and Children.

The committee’s recent survey showed that 39 percent of boys and 36 percent of girls in the city’s primary schools stand taller than pupils from other localities.

In Hanoi’s senior high schools, girls and boys are 1.56m and 1.67m, 0.01m and 0.02m respectively higher than those from elsewhere in the country.

The survey also found that a capital resident now consumes 2,000kcal per day, lower than the world standard.

Hanoi’s human development index (HDI) is forecast to continue increasing and may reach 0.75 point by 2010.
