The Party and State consider overseas Vietnamese an important force and an indispensable part of the Vietnamese nation, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet while receiving a delegation of overseas Vietnamese in Hanoi on August 23.

The overseas Vietnamese, who reside in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, have returned to Vietnam for celebrations of the 61st National Day (September 2).

Mr Triet noted that Resolution 36 of the Party Central Committee’s Political Bureau on work regarding overseas Vietnamese testified to the Party’s Doi Moi (Renewal) guidelines and consistent policy on overseas Vietnamese.

He said that Vietnamese Party and State leaders have asked all Party organisations, sectors and people to grasp the Party’s guidelines and policy on overseas Vietnamese affairs, considering it an important task in the coming time.

He said he was happy to know that overseas Vietnamese have integrated well into the communities in their resident countries, while maintaining Vietnamese cultural identity and organising activities towards the homeland.

He said he hopes that Vietnamese nationals abroad will make further contributions to the homeland.
Vietnam’s regional and global integration process has brought about numerous opportunities, which requires the great effort from every Vietnamese citizen, including those residing overseas to make the most of the process,” said Mr Triet.
