The leaders of Japan, China and the Republic of Korea (RoK) held a trilateral meeting in Japan’s Fukuoka Prefecture on December 13.

In the one-day summit, the leaders signed three statements on the tripartite partnership, international finance and the economy, and disaster management cooperation, Japanese government officials was quoted by news agencies as saying.

Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and RoK President Lee Myung Bak also agreed on an “'action plan”,' which calls for trilateral cooperation in about 30 areas including environmental protection and human exchanges.

A Japanese government official said the meeting has “significant'” as it is the first “'stand-alone” meeting of the leaders of the three countries, although they have had eight trilateral meetings on the sidelines of regional summit meetings that also involved Southeast Asian nations.

The three countries will hold the second trilateral summit in China next year and the third one in the RoK in a bid to promote trilateral ties and to establish dialogue among the three.
