The delegation of the European Union (EU) to Vietnam on April 7 announced the granting of Erasmus Mundus scholarships for Vietnamese students.

This is part of a cooperation programme on tertiary education, with the aim of promoting exchanges between universities in the EU and around the world, as well as creating more employment opportunities for students and lecturers in developing countries.

Counsellor of the EU delegation, Berenice Muiraille, said that Erasmus Mundus scholarships are granted for masters and doctorate courses. In 2011, about 130 students around the world will be provided with Erasmus Mundus scholarships in various fields, including physics, astronomy, law, economics, agriculture and gene technology.

Vietnamese students can register for Erasmus Mundus scholarships via Embassies of EU nations to Vietnam and the EU representative office or apply directly over the Internet.

Since 2004, 472 Vietnamese students have received Erasmus Mundus scholarships.
