Ho Chi Minh City-based Veterinary Centre Zone 6 announced on April 14 that blood samples taken from a pig herd in Bao Loc town of central highland Lam Dong province have tested positive for blue-ear disease.

The Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee held an urgent meeting with leaders of all localities and relevant agencies in order to work out measures to combat the disease.

 

According to Pham Ngoc Thiep, head of the Lam Dong Veterinary Department, the blue-ear epidemic was detected in Loc Phat Ward, Bao Loc town on April 7. So far, 41 of out 3,870 pigs from 33 households have been infected with the disease.

 

Lam Dong province has taken measures to sterilize infected areas and has strictly intensified inspections at three checkpoints in the province to prevent the illegal trading and transportation of sick pigs.
