The Prime Minister on March 18 signed Decision No. 289/QD-TTg on financial support for ethnic minority people, poor households and fishermen in the face of petroleum price hikes.
The decision stipulates that during the 2008-2010 period, a fisherman will receive VND70 million (US$4,375) a year to build a ship of 90 CV or upwards in line with the standards set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
It also regulates financial support for fishermen who renew their vessels’ engines and buy insurances for their vessels and crewmen.
Regarding poor ethnic households in areas without access to electricity, the decision provides support for buying fuel and increase aid for buying medical insurance.
