Prime Minster Nguyen Tan Dung has asked Vietnam Television (VTV) to improve the quality of TV programmes, especially those on political affairs while ensuring accurate and timely information and meeting the needs to raise the level of general knowledge among the public.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung paid a working visit to VTV in Hanoi on September 11 where he praised 3,000 VTV staff members for their great efforts in developing the national television station rapidly and comprehensively in terms of material and technical facilities, airtime and coverage during the past 38 years.

In recent years, VTV information has proved to be more interesting, diversified and timely, positively impacting on social affairs and significantly contributing to the process of national industrialisation and modernisation.

VTV has well implemented the self-financing mechanism and successfully mobilised all resources available for further development. Particularly, its staff’s professional skills and foreign language levels have improved considerably.

VTV is a major media agency aimed at disseminating information about the Party and State’s policies, guidelines and legal matters with a view to promoting national construction and development, said Mr Dung.

The Government leader asked VTV to pay more attention to improving the professional skills, foreign language proficiency and political awareness of its staff. He also urged VTV to finalise material construction projects, fulfill its functions and tasks as a national TV station and increase its internationally competitive capacity.
