Festival Hue 2008, scheduled for the former imperial city of Hue from June 3-11, 2008, will continue to feature many historical and cultural festivities under the theme Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development, according to the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee.

Organisers are working hard to prepare major festive programmes including a ceremony to depict Nguyen Hue ascending the throne as Emperor Quang Trung in Phu Xuan in 1788, martial arts performances, doctorate examinations and a cannon firing display.

Local authorities are refurbishing tombs of former kings and royal mandarins and other historical relics for special tours. An international film festival will be held in Hue in May for the first time in the lead up to the festival.


Organisers are also putting final touches on various promotional activities, including the publication of booklets on “Hue – the city of heritage and festival” and VCDs on Hue Festivals, and introducing Festival Hue 2008 at international seminars, fairs and tourism exhibitions.


France
continues to be the main sponsor of the festival, with the participation of Hanneton Art Troupe from Paris and Catrrabosse Art Troupe from Poitou-Charentes region. The French Embassy in Hanoi announced that it will also prepare six other art performances for the festival.


The festival will see the participation of art troupes from Africa and North America for the first time, alongside those from Europe, Asia and South America.
