State, NA leaders host Dutch Queen

VOV.VN - President Tran Dai Quang and National Assembly (NA) Chair Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on May 31 received in Hanoi Queen Maxima Zorreguieta Cerruti of the Netherlands, also the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.

At the reception, President Quang told his guest that Vietnam has obtained significant socio-economic results thanks to an inclusive financial policy, and that its poverty reduction accomplishments have been acknowledged internationally.

He suggested the Queen, as a representative of the Netherlands and the UN, will help Vietnam mobilize financial and technical resources from international organizations to develop an inclusive financial policy.

Quang cited the Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management (2010) and the Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (2014) as vivid evidence of the current fruitful relationship between Vietnam and the Netherlands.

President Quang used this occasion to thank Queen Máxima for her interest in microfinance in Vietnam through her visit to the country in 2011. He praised the Queen’s efforts to enhance inclusive finance for developing nations as well as her ongoing visit to study and share experience in promoting inclusive finance as Vietnam has just embarked on this field.

Queen Maxima said her visit aims to promote inclusive finance in Vietnam. She appreciated Vietnam’s achievements and affirmed the Netherland’s readiness to share its experience in the field with Vietnam.

Receiving the Dutch Queen the same day, the top legislator affirmed the Vietnamese government, National Assembly, relevant agencies, and business community's readiness to work with the Queen Maxima of the Netherlands on issues related to inclusive finance for development. 

Vietnam sticks importance to and advocates enhancing the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with the Netherlands which is playing an important role in the European Union (EU), she said. 

Ngan also underscored the significance of inclusive finance to the development of each nation, which she said, is the main driver mentioned in seven out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

She said the National Assembly will assign one of its committees to supervise agreements, adding that that Vietnam has the bank of social policy for the poor and disadvantaged people in rural, mountainous, and remote areas and wants to receive more support from the international community in this field.

Queen Maxima, in turn congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in poverty reduction over the past years while assuring her nation and international partners are willing to share experience with Vietnam in building a national inclusive finance strategy. 

The participation of ministries and agencies concerned, particularly those regarding technology and private sector, in devising the draft national strategy is needed, during which, the State Bank of Vietnam plays an important coordinating role, she said.

The Queen also highlighted the diversification of current financial services, saying the two countries could cooperate in developing a highly integrated electronic payment system in Vietnam.
