Tan Son Nhat Airport welcomes 20 millionth passenger

(VOV) - HCM City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport held a special ceremony on December 23 to welcome its 20 millionth passenger, aboard flight VN231 from Hanoi.

Director of the airport Dang Tuan Tu said the event marks the airport reaching its estimated full capacity of 20 million passengers per year.

It is expected that more than 20.1 million passengers will travel via the airport, meeting 107% of this year’s plan and accounting for 45% of total airport passenger numbers across the country.

The airport also received 9 million foreign visitors, up 14% and transported 375,000 tonnes of parcels, up 10% compared to the previous year.

This year, Tan Son Nhat airport implemented a series of major projects to upgrade infrastructure and renovate technologies to improve safety, security and the quality of services.

Work has begun to expand foreign and domestic terminals, aiming to welcome 25 million passengers and handle 600,000 tonnes of parcels per year.

In addition to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001, the airport is applying safety management system (SMS) and ISO 50001 and ISO 14001.

Around 44 airlines are currently exploiting domestic and foreign routes to and from HCM City.
