SEA education ministers to meet in Hanoi
(VOV) - The 47th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) conference will be held in Hanoi on March 19-21 to foster innovations in education and training to meet the growing demand for high-quality human resources.
This is the second time Vietnam will have hosted such event which is expected to attract around 300 delegates from 21 countries.
In a press briefing on March 15, Deputy Minister of Education and Training (MoET) Pham Manh Hung said the conference will help boost regional cooperation in education and training - a field which is being given top priority in many countries around the world, especially in Southeast Asia.
Important issues are expected to be discussed at the conference, including strengthening activities to ensure safety in schools, increasing high-quality teaching programmes, promoting investment in education, and reinforcing cooperation with the international community to develop education and training.
A forum will be held to share experiences among Southeast Asian (SEA) nations and European countries on lifelong learning and building a learning society, as well as orientations for developing lifelong learning in the Southeast Asian region.
A round-table discussion of ministers will also take place to discuss the building of a learning society in SEA nations in the lead up to the ASEAN community by 2015.
According to plan, the conference will admit the UK to the organisation.
As SEAMEO Council President for 2013-2015, Vietnam is tasked with deploying the SEAMEO comprehensive strategic plan that was approved at the 46th SEAMEO conference.
