A Traffic Safety Month was launched at the August 19 Square on August 29 with the participation of more than 1,500 policemen, transport officials and staff, and young volunteers.

At the launch ceremony, Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung emphasized that the month will focus on young people and teenagers who are often the cause of traffic accidents. During the month, relevant agencies will disseminate information and encourage the community to develop traffic sense and culture. He called upon all local people to respond to the month to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Khoi, launched the month in Hanoi and assigned duties to each traffic control agency, especially during the great national holiday to mark the capital’s anniversary.

During the Traffic Safety Month, Hanoi will promote a movement to keep traffic in order, develop civilised behavior and form the habit to obey traffic laws. Hanoi will reduce traffic jams, repair damaged roads, clear out stalls illegally erected on the pavement and strictly punish those who violate traffic laws.
