Japan's Shinnyo-En Foundation on December 14 granted scholarships to poor Vietnamese students and pupils.

This was the first time the Japanese foundation has lent a helping hand to poor Vietnamese students.

The foundation has planned to provide 50 scholarships, each worth US$120 a year, for university students and 70 scholarships, each worth US$80 a year, for school pupils in four years, beginning in 2006.
