A series of attacks hit Iraq on Monday, killing 31 people just days before US troops are scheduled to withdraw from Iraqi cities, said security officials.

The latest deaths, including five Iraqi soldiers, two policemen, three university students on their way to sit their final exams, and a four-year-old child, raised the total death toll across Iraq to 100 in the past three days.

The strikes in Baghdad and other volatile parts of the country wounded 96 other people.

In the most lethal single offensive, seven people died after a car bomb targeted at municipal offices in Abu Ghraib, in a suburb of west Baghdad, AFP reports. Sixteen others were also wounded, including three US soldiers.

These were the latest bloody attacks before the planned withdrawal of US troops from Iraqi towns and cities by June 30 takes place as part of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between Baghdad and Washington.
