A Japanese funded project aimed at improving Hanoi's road safety and cracking down on traffic law-breakers has achieved good results after one year of implementation.

The city's Transport and Public Works Department made the assessment in Hanoi on March 23 at a workshop reviewing the project's implementation over the past year as well as planning for next year.

The US$400,000 project, with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has helped reduce traffic congestion in the Thai Ha-Chua Boc route, one of Hanoi's busiest roads. The model will be expanded to include other streets in the capital in 2007.
