The prison was built by the former Saigon puppet regime in early 1971 to detain more than 600 juvenile revolutionaries who were picked up from prisons in central and southern localities, including Quang Nam, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Ben Tre, Chi Hoa and Con Dao.
The teen prisoners conducted a lot of movements against the former regime, particularly an uprising in mid 1973, forcing the breaking up of the jail.
Talking to his guests, President Triet said that he was moved by and proud of the will and staunch combative spirit of the former detainees in the imperialist stockade.
“Your will and struggling spirit had offered a lesson for the younger generations, strengthening their revolutionary courage,” he said.
The State leader highly valued the important contributions made by the under-age revolutionaries to the nation’s resistance war.
