Vietnam exported US$10.13 billion worth of agricultural, forestry and fisheries products in the first seven months of this year, up by 14 percent from last year.

The country’s core agricultural exports hit US$5.35 billion in the review period, a year-on-year increase of 8 percent, while the corresponding figures for fisheries and forestry exports were US$2.45 billion (up 12 percent) and US$1.9 billion (up 31 percent), respectively.

Rubber tops the country’s list of agricultural staples shipped abroad in the first seven months of this year, earning US$821 million, (up 71 percent). This is attributable to the rubber export price doubling in the first five months to US$2,744 per tonne compared with the same period last year.

Rubber was followed by pepper with 87,000 tonnes worth US$274 million (up 5 percent in volume and 42 percent in value), thanks to a sharp increase in major markets such as the US and Germany.

Other agricultural products such as cashew nuts, tea and rice also fared well.

Regarding fisheries exports, shrimp took the lead with a turnover of US$717 million, making up 35 percent of the sector’s export turnover, followed by tra and basa fish exports with US$650 million.

The EU remained the country’s biggest export market for seafood with US$512 million in turnover. It was followed by Japan with US$373 million.

In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam spent US$7.52 billion, 33 percent more than the same period last year, on imported agricultural, forestry and fisheries raw materials.
