Foreign media on November 14 highlighted the significance of the visit to the Republic of Korea by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the RoK.

Major newspapers in the RoK said that during talks between Party General Secretary Manh and President Roh Moo-hyun, the two leaders agreed to boost comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, particularly in information technology, trade and investment, tourism, as well as double-taxation avoidance.
China’s Xinhua news agency said that President Roh expressed thanks to Vietnam for its proactive and constructive role in boosting stability and peace on the Korean peninsula.

The Agence France Presse (AFP) also covered General Secretary Manh’s activities in the RoK, highlighting President Roh’s statement to hail Vietnam ’s readiness to play a positive role in boosting relations between the two Koreas.

Other news agencies emphasised Vietnam’s willingness to contribute to promoting peace, stability and cooperation on the Korean peninsular and expressed hope that the visit will help strengthen economic and political relations, expand trade ties, as well as enhance bilateral cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual concern between Vietnam and the RoK.
