Chevron supports Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS prevention program

(VOV) - The Chevron Vietnam Company under the US Chevron Group has committed to donating US$1 million to Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria prevention programme.

The programme will help pregnant women receive free HIV testing. It will also ensure pregnant women with HIV already have access to antiretroviral (ARV) treatment to minimise mother-to-child transmission.

In Vietnam, limiting mother-to-child HIV transmissions is one of main targets of the national HIV/AIDS prevention and control strategy looking forward to 2020.

HIV/AIDS remains a major concern as the number of new infections continues to increase.

1,300 new HIV infections were detected in November, bringing the total number of HIV infected people to 261,000 this year, including 54,000 fatalities.
