The center of Storm Kammuri hit the coast of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh provinces at 4pm on August 7, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The strongest wind speeds near the center on August 7 were up to level eight between 62 and 74kmph. The storm was hovering around 21.3 north latitude and 105.3 east longitude.

The storm is expected on August 8 to travel north-west at a speed of 10-15kmph and affect directly the sea north of Bac Bo (Tokin) Gulf and the coastal areas of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces, then weaken into a low depression.

Storm Kammuri will likely cause heavy rains in the Northern and Northern Central regions.

At 4pm on August 8, the center of the low depression will be at around 21 north latitude and 105.2 east longitude with a wind force of 39-49kmph.

In the next 24 hours, the low depression will travel south-west and weaken further.

Local authorities and residents should be vigilant against whirlwinds, flash floods and landslides, the center said.
