The first phase of H5N1 vaccine tests on humans officially began on April 19, with 30 volunteers from the Military Medical Institute getting 1ml-dose shots.

The volunteers will undergo medical check-ups and three blood tests to look for antigens and ensure the vaccine’s safety. On the 28th day, the volunteers will be given the second shot and they will also have another round of blood tests.

The first phase will last for 56 days.

The experimental H5N1 vaccine is produced by the Vaccine and Medical Bio-product Company No.1 and the Vietnam Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE). This is the first time Vietnam-produced H5N1 vaccine has been tested on humans on such a large scale.
