HCM City now has more than 425,800 elderly people, who represent 6.96 percent of the city’s total population, with 319 aged above 100, according to the Vietnam Elderly People Association.


The oldest people in the city are Nguyen Thi Ba in precinct 8 and Le Thi Nam in Tan Binh precinct who are 112 years old.


The city has provided special care and medical treatment for people who are above 70.

The metropolitan People’s Committee will present VND200,000 each to 7,448 elderly people aged 90 or above during this year’s Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.


The city gave gifts worth VND16 billion to its elderly people for Tet and other major holidays last year.
