1 killed, 7 missing in ship collision off Vung Tau coast

(VOV) - A collision between Singaporean and Vietnamese ships off Vung Tau coast early on September 16 left one dead and 7 others missing.

The accident happened at 2am when Singapore’s cargo ship Sima Saphire, en route from HCM City to Malaysia, collided with Tien Giang province’s fishing vessel, about 50 nautical miles off Vung Tau coast, causing the vessel to sink.

The Singaporean ship only saved only 8 out of a total of 16 Vietnamese fishermen aboard the vessel.

Two rescue boats were deployed immediately to search for the missing. However, bad weather hampered rescue efforts.

A dead body was found at 9am, and rescue forces are combing through the marked waters to search for the missing.
