The Central Highland province Dak Lak has set a target to have 15,000 pupils at 100 primary and secondary schools attend classes in both Vietnamese and Ede languages by 2015.
The plan aims to help improve education quality for Ede ethnic pupils, preserve and develop the language and culture of the minority group.
The province started teaching Ede language for the third to the fifth grades at schools in areas inhabited by the ethnic people from the 1980s and later at junior high schools.
In the 2009-2010 school year, the province had 11,969 Ede pupils study at 487 classes in 88 schools.
The province has worked together with education institutions to compile textbooks and syllabus for Ede language teaching at schools.
