Recently, Thich Quang Do, under the cloak of a monk, incited people to make complaints and petitions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in an attempt to cause social disorder. President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Pham The Duyet says his acts are unacceptable as they go against national interests.

Following is a short interview granted to VOVNews by Mr Duyet on August 30.

VOVNews:
What do you think about Thich Quang Do’s acts?

Mr Duyet: They were completely wrong. Despite his high profile, his acts ran counter to the lofty ethics of a Buddhist dignitary by dancing to the tune of hostile forces to incite people to oppose the Party and State and undermine the bloc of great national unity. First of all, acts done by Do and his accomplices violated the law. Second, as a Buddhist, he did not follow Buddha’s teachings, but acted against the nation, creating conditions for hostile forces inside and outside the country to oppose the Party and State and raise suspicion among the population. It is unacceptable. Of course, petitioners’ interests are at stake at times in settling land-related issues. However, no one is allowed to buy off or incite others to oppose the State.

VOVNews:
How will the VFF come along with information dissemination to promote the bloc of great national unity and make people uncover hostile forces’ dark schemes?

Mr Duyet: We pay full attention to this work. First of all, we require VFF member organisations and grassroots level branches to enhance information dissemination to residential areas to help local people understand insidious schemes by hostile forces that make use of weaknesses in our policies to incite people to cause social disorder, oppose the Party and State and undermine the bloc of great national unity. Through these organisations, we encourage the people to promote unity and build new lifestyles to better implement Party and State policies.

Through media agencies, we advise the people to be highly vigilant against schemes attempting to obstruct national development. Vietnam is in the international integration process, focusing on national industrialisation and modernisation. However, hostile forces never want the Communist Party of Vietnam to grasp socialism and victory. They make use of our difficulties and weaknesses to sow division and cause the people to distrust the regime.

In addition, we often make regular contacts with religious dignitaries and respectful persons such as village chiefs to explore the aspirations and desires of religious followers and ethnic people. These respectful persons in turn help religious followers and ethnic people understand Party guidelines and State policies.

VOVNews:
Thank you very much.
