Vietnam will do its best to assist Myanmar in its national development process, says State President Truong Tan Sang.
  • Vietnam treasures ties with Myanmar

Mr Sang made the statement at a June 22 reception in Hanoi for Khin Aung Myint, President of the Myanmar Parliament and the Speaker of its Upper House.

President Sang spoke highly of Myanmar’s recent achievements in national construction and development and the country’s successful Parliamentary by-elections in April.

He said he is pleased with the development of bilateral relationship and proposed that both countries strengthen people-to-people exchanges.

This, he added, will promote mutual trust and understanding and provide a forum to work out ways to effectively foster cooperation in the future.

Although economic cooperation has steadily increased, it is not on par with the two countries’ potential, Mr Sang said, urging both countries’ ministries and agencies to enhance ties by establishing a direct channel to provide information on law, policies, trade and investment.

The State leader said he hopes that both countries will support each other in the international arena and expressed his belief that Myanmar will fulfill its mission as ASEAN Chair in 2014.

President Myint said that he is delighted with the positive changes he has seen in Vietnam in recent years and hopes the country will continue to maintain macroeconomic growth and ensure social welfare.

The Myanmar Parliamentary chief said he believes the visit will contribute to enhancing the traditional relationship between the two countries.
