Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong have sent messages of condolences to their Chinese counterparts over the severe human losses caused by an earthquake that hit the western Chinese province of Sichuan on May 12.

The messages were sent to Party General Secretary and President Hu Jintao, Chairman of the National People’s Congress Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.


Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem also extended condolences to Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.


The same day, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Dung conveyed Vietnamese people’s heartfelt condolences to the Chinese Party, State and people over the losses.


“We are saddened to hear that the earthquake has caused devastating losses of human lives and property, affecting the lives and production of millions of Chinese people,” said Mr Dung. “We believe that Chinese people will quickly overcome the consequences of the earthquake, restore production and stabilise their lives.”
