More than VND500 million was raised for Agent Orange/Dioxin victims at a special art programme called “Justice of the Heart” held in Hanoi on August 9.

The programme drew the participation of noted artists, AO victims and particularly the AO child victims of Hoa Binh (Peace) Village in Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan district.

The programme, the second of its kind, was jointly held by the Vietnamese Association for the Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA), the Cong Ly (Justice) newspaper and the Thang Long Culture and Information Company. It aims to call on domestic and overseas individuals and organisations to provide physical and spiritual support for AO victims in their struggle for justice.

*** Philanthropists presented gifts worth VND20 million to AO child victims in Ho Chi Minh City on August 8. At the meeting, 100 AO child victims played with the city's children and enjoyed art performances.

*** An association of Agent Orange/Dioxin victims in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa made its debut on August 9. At its first congress held the same day, the association set a target of establishing chapters in all communes and districts by 2007 to provide spiritual and material assistance to all local AO victims.

Thanh Hoa raised about VND1 billion for AO victims during a fundraising campaign launched in July in response to an Action Month in support of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims.

The provincial authorities presented 30 gifts worth VND300,000 each to the families of AO victims in six districts and decided to build charitable houses for these victims.

Meanwhile, the provincial Red Cross and its grassroots chapters have offered free medical check-ups and medicines for poor people and presented wheelchairs to AO victims.
