The northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh should make the best of its internal resources to maintain steady growth during the economic slowdown, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung.

While working with the provincial authorities in Hoa Binh City on March 28, Mr Hung said that the province needs to effectively implement the Party’s resolution on agriculture, farmer and rural affairs, focusing on vocational training and the transfer of agricultural technology to farmers.

Rural people must learn how to develop the farming economy alongside industries and services, said Mr Hung.

He asked Hoa Binh to speed up the disbursement of capital from government bonds for rural transport, irrigation and hospital projects to ensure they are completed on time.

He also requested it keep a close watch on the implementation of credit and tax support policies for businesses and social welfare policies, especially those on job creation and poverty reduction so as to improve local people’s living conditions.

Located in the north-western region of Vietnam, Hoa Binh has a population of 810,000, of whom 60 percent are Muong – the second largest ethnic group in Vietnam after the Kinh.

Despite difficulties last year, the province achieved an economic growth rate of 11.8 percent, with industry and construction increasing by 22.1 percent.

To date it has attract 204 investment projects, including 17 foreign-invested ones, capitalised at US$740 million.
