The Vietnamese Government will do its best to create favourable conditions for enterprises to overcome difficulties and challenges and boost sustainable economic development, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

A national conference to honour outstanding entrepreneurs in 2008 was held in Hanoi on October 11, drawing the participation of 500 businesses from all economic sectors and representatives from ministries, centrally-run sectors, local people’s committees and business associations.

This was the largest business forum for presentation of effective measures to curb inflation, stabilise the macro economy, boost production, ensure social welfare and sustainable development and develop a contingent of entrepreneurs in the new situation.

Addressing the conference, PM Dung praised efforts made by businesses to remove obstacles to business and production activities in the face of the current economic slowdown.

The Government always shows its keen interest in practical opinions and issues raised by businesses and will be deal with them on a step- by-step basis, Mr Dung stressed.

The Government leader also expressed hope that the number of outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs will annually increase to accelerate the process of national industrialisation and modernisation.

It is imperative for businesses to have long-term production strategies aimed at increasing their production capacity, economic efficiency and social responsibility.

The Government will continue reinforcing administrative reform, expanding investment in infrastructure and training human resources in order to make business operations more effective, said Mr Dung

The Government leader also reviewed the socio-economic situation over the past nine months and set tasks for the last quarter of this year and outlines plan for next year.

On the occasion, the Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Vu Tien Loc presented four solutions aimed at promoting dissemination on foreign affairs information, increasing the capacity for business administration, educating and training entrepreneurs and expanding access to capital for businesses.

The Government’s top priority over the next two years will be given to curbing inflation and tightening monetary policy. The reduction in spending and public investment will narrow business opportunities on the domestic market, therefore, businesses should spare no effort to overcome such difficulties by taking urgent measures including the four above mentioned solutions, said Mr Loc.
