Around 100 poor Ho Chi Minh City-based university students will be provided with scholarships to learn and improve their English language skills during the 2008-2009 academic year.

The scholarship programme, worth VND2 billion in total, for poor students who are keen to learn English language was announced in Ho Chi Minh City on August 5.

The most outstanding students will be chosen and provided with extra scholarships for overseas studies from the programme, according to the announcement.

The programme was co-organised by the city’s students union, Tuoi tre (Youth) newspaper, the International Language Academy (ILA) Vietnam and Pepsico Company.

It is part of a Tuoi tre-run project called “For the  next generations development” which was launched 20 years ago with 117 scholarship programmes granted to nearly 16,000 students nationwide.
